what is Teams Direct Routing?
Direct Routing allows Teams users to make calls from Teams to numbers outside of their organisation. This can mean mobile, landline and international numbers.
Historically this has been expensive. Integrating Teams with eve makes direct routing chargeable at the cost of standard rate calls from a landline.
It also allows you to add bolt-on products to Teams users, such as inbound numbers, call recording, hunt groups, IVR, call queues and all the features you can utilise with eve’s cloud based phone system.

As part of our dedication to make complex technology simple, we have created an auto-configuration tool to make this process easy.
One of the most challenging parts of enabling Direct Routing for Microsoft tenants is the amount of PowerShell required to activate and sync direct routing with the service provider.
The configuration we have created, means that calls made from the user’s Teams account outside of the platform will go across the eve’s network, effectively creating a Teams phone system.
This is charged per user, which reduces the cost of a manual configuration process enormously and saves you and your customer time.

Microsoft Teams licensing requirements for Direct Routing
The licence needed for Direct Routing is the “Microsoft Teams Phone Standard” licence.
Teams Phone is included in a number of licences including:
- Common Area Phone
- Microsoft 365 Business Voice (without calling plan)
- Microsoft 365 E5
- Microsoft Teams Rooms Standard
- Office 365 E5
In addition, the Teams Phone licence can be added to the following:
- Micrsoft Teams Essentials
- Microsoft 365 Business Basic
- Microsoft 365 Business Standard
- Microsoft 365 Business Premium
- Microsoft 365 E1
- Microsoft 365 E3
Resource accounts like Auto Attendants and Call Queues require the free Microsoft Teams Phone Resource Account licence.
